The ÉXODOCS organizing committee (KU Leuven) cordially invites you to the online symposium Conversations on Migration: Border Crossers as Storytellers, Storytellers as Border Crossers that will take place on 24 and 25 September 2021. This two-day event will serve as a forum for discussion during which academics and documentary makers from different walks of life will come together to share their knowledge on migration – be it as a trope, a concept, or a phenomenon.
Being the culmination of the four-year research project ÉXODOCS or “The Representation of Migration from Latin America to the United States: Documentary Filmmakers as New Storytellers on Border Crossing” (2017-2021), the symposium aims to elaborate on the project’s hypothesis that documentary makers become border crossers themselves (in terms of genre, content, form, and so on) when they tell stories on border crossing. By applying this approach to all possible renditions of migration, ranging from literature to journalism, the core concern of our conversations will be to unpack the complexity of migration when it is captured migrating itself to the page and/or screen.

El comité organizador de ÉXODOCS (KU Leuven) le invita cordialmente al simposio en línea Conversaciones sobre la migración: migrantes y narradores entre cruces y fronteras que tendrá lugar el 24 y 25 de septiembre de 2021. Este evento de dos días servirá como foro de discusión durante el cual académicos y documentalistas de diferentes ámbitos se reunirán para compartir sus conocimientos sobre la migración, ya sea como metáfora, concepto o fenómeno.
Siendo la culminación del proyecto de investigación de cuatro años ÉXODOCS o “La representación de la migración de América Latina a los Estados Unidos: realizadores de documentales como nuevos narradores en el cruce de fronteras” (2017-2021), el simposio tiene como objetivo llevar más allá la hipótesis del proyecto según la cual los documentalistas cruzan fronteras (en términos de género, contenido, forma, etc.) cuando cuentan historias sobre migración. Al aplicar este enfoque a todas las posibles versiones de la migración, que van desde la literatura hasta el periodismo, la principal preocupación de nuestras conversaciones será desentrañar la complejidad de la migración, tanto a través de las imágenes como a través de las palabras.
